Sustainability Media and Toronto Metropolitan University Collaborate on AMR Policy Research in West Africa
Sustainability Media and Toronto Metropolitan University partner to advance antimicrobial resistance policy research and knowledge mobilisation across West Africa.
Introduction
Sustainability Media is collaborating with Toronto Metropolitan University to support knowledge mobilisation for research addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) policy action in West Africa. The collaboration is connected to a Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Catalyst grant project focused on strengthening governance capacity and building a regional community of practice to advance policy action on this challenge.

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when microorganisms no longer respond effectively to medicines designed to treat infections, making infections harder to manage and increasing risks for people and health systems. Addressing AMR requires coordinated policy responses, effective governance, and collaboration across sectors and countries. In West Africa, strengthening the capacity to develop, implement, and sustain policy action is an important part of this work. This collaboration brings together research and communication perspectives to help make project knowledge more accessible and useful to audiences involved in policy and practice. Knowledge mobilisation can connect research findings with decision-makers, practitioners, partners, and communities, supporting understanding and informed discussion. For a project focused on governance capacity and a regional community of practice, clear and relevant communication can help explain why AMR policy matters, what questions the research is examining, and how regional cooperation may contribute to progress. As the work develops, Sustainability Media and Toronto Metropolitan University will collaborate on products designed to communicate the project’s focus and support engagement with its subject. The partnership reflects the importance of presenting research in ways that audiences can understand, share, and use. By bringing attention to AMR policy action in West Africa, the collaboration will contribute to wider conversations about governance, research, and coordinated responses. Further project details and outputs can be shared as they become available. The goal is to bridge research and real-world decision-making through accessible communication, without overstating findings or assuming outcomes before the project’s work and products are complete.
